Well, you can certainly have one foot in politics and the other in WAR, which is pretty terrible to the hundreds of thousands, soon to be millions, of casualties of American warfare.

He was the general of the "Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps, an armed forces unit separate and parallel to the regular armed forces.

I believe that this was NOT a coincidence, or a simple bad weather plane crash. Missile, EM-weapon, or something else. The Iranian military will probably be easier to defeat without the men on board that plane.

The previous Iranian military air crash (and wiki here) might be related (I think it was full of journalists covering some military event). Of course, it is claimed that Iran has a very poor aviation safety record.
