ECHELON, the mother of all wiretaps

I've been putting this post off for a while, but since drudgereport mentioned it (a "60 minutes" transcript here), here it is:

ECHELON (a giant computer program run by the NSA) sifts through most/all (?) emails and possibly/probably telephone calls and looks for keywords. Every intelligence agency of the U.S. and it's allies (or at least in the nations originally signing onto the echelon project) gets its own list of keywords. If the search algorithm is satisfied, then that agency gets the email/phone conversation and a live agent looks at it to guage the threat.

Now, this is either REAL, or a PSYOP. If it's real, then the recent business about some warrantless wiretaps is a smokescreen. If it's a psyop, it's a great way to make everyone afraid to talk about anti-government and illegal activities through email and phone.

Let me restate that. If it's real, then the big fiasco about the NSA doing unauthorized wiretaps is ridiculous, because EVERYTHING is being "listened" to.

Does anyone read this? I mean besides echelon.
